ABOUT ME
📚 MY ACADEMIC JOURNEY
Hi there, my name is Taoufik. Welcome to my space on the internet.
I am currently teaching Arabic and culture at Jarvis Christian University, Hawkins, TX, USA. I have been a high school English Teacher since 2016. I hold a master’s degree in Green Cultural Studies from the University of Mohammed First, Oujda, Morocco. In 2014, I graduated from the same university with a Degree in English Studies. In my previous role as a Language and Culture Facilitator for the United States Peace Corps, I taught Arabic (Darija) and Moroccan Culture to adult Americans. This work has given me a deep understanding of how inter-cultural training can positively impact students. In addition to my work for the U.S Peace Corps, I worked for the American Language Center in Oujda, Morocco; I conducted English classes to speakers of other languages and I also served as a cultural and language facilitator in Arabic to the American teachers working at the center. During my work, I have participated in several national and international seminars that revolved around different topics related to themes of education, society, and culture.
I have always been interested in pursuing my higher education to broaden my perspectives in the fields of literature, teaching, environment and culture. Currently, I am studying for my master’s degree in Green Cultural Studies. Nowadays, our mother earth is facing a lot of environmental issues that threaten humanity more than ever. Global warming, pollution, climate change and many other environmental concerns have pushed science to look into immediate solutions. However, science alone cannot save humanity from the forthcoming natural disasters. Thinkers, scholars and literary writers emphasize that schools of humanities as well bear the responsibility of cultivating and contributing to the field of environmental studies. Green Cultural Studies Master program is a field of study that tackles the importance of nature in our lives as human beings through an eco-critical eye that looks into literary works where nature is either present or absent.
Green Cultural Studies Master’s program sheds light on the relationship that exists between literature and the physical environment through practical and theoretical studies of various disciplines, approaches and literary works that tackle nature and its related concepts, such as; ecocriticism, ecophobia, culture, ecopoetic, ecofeminism so on and so forth. Since the above-mentioned environmental problems are recent, ecocriticism is a vibrant field.
