DIALOGUE UNITES US WORKSHOP, Rabat, Morocco
“DIALOGUE UNITES US” – March, 2018 Rabat « Dialogue Unites Us » seminar was a series of valuable and interactive workshops organized by the Moroccan Organization of Young Decision Makers in partnership with the Danish Liberal Party (Venstres Ungdom) in March 2018 in Rabat. The main objectives of the seminar revolved around addressing the topic of dialogue in an attempt to generate a good understanding of dialogue as a form of communication that aims at uniting people. As a participant, I had the chance to learn and engage with 50 youth leaders from different regions of Morocco about all that is related to creating a dialogue that is based on active listening, respect, reflecting, and understanding.
The workshops were held following a visual timeline that introduces all details of the seminar so that all participants can relate and refer to when needed. The first day was a chance for the participants to network, get to know each other, learn about the seminar main objectives, and explore the term dialogue through the opening workshop (drawing dialogue). During the second day, participants experienced being in dialogue through the Line-game and other activities that demonstrated how dialogue is a unique form of communication requiring certain skills and tools to be mastered which were, as well, introduced. The third day was about practicing and facilitating dialogue through an overview of dialogue in both the Moroccan and the Danish contexts.

The seminar has been a great learning experience. I have learned that dialogue is not a simple conversation that is established only to transfer a certain message, but it is an understanding of the cultural and social aspects through active listening and respect. More importantly, all participants shared their experience with their communities in order to reach the maximum number of people. For me, as a high school English teacher, I had the chance to facilitate many workshops to share all that I have learned with my students and colleagues.

Everyone remembers their learning of a foreign language, in which there was usually a heavy focus on grammar, syntax and spelling. I believe that learning a new foreign language can be considered as a difficult task taking into consideration all the other subjects being taught in high school. However…
